Dongfang deeply understands that learning Chinese is a rather challenging requirement under the North American cultural environment. Childhood is the best window for learning an additional language but unfortunately children are too young to recognize the benefit of being multi-lingual. As a school, it is critical to maintain balance between extracurricular activity and purely academic activity for the students. We have to maintain the interest of students in learning Chinese and we also have to follow the curriculum to attain Chinese language standards.
Consequently, Dongfang is also the place to promote Chinese culture for students at the same time as they learn Chinese launguge. We hope students can learn how to read, write, understand and speak Chinese at same time that they are exposed to concepts of respect, knowledge, trust and devotion. The school will help them love teachers and to make friends. They should also gain the respect for helping others and community service.
